Today, these same lands continue to flourish, their beauty preserved and nurtured by those who have built and maintained them for the world to enjoy.

Through the Sacred Greens Initiative, we seek not to divide, but to unite — to honor the stewards of these greens who have sustained their splendor, while rekindling a partnership with the Indigenous communities whose spirit and history remain rooted beneath every blade of grass.

Together, we celebrate shared stewardship — and together, we build pathways for recognition, collaboration, and respect. For when we honor the land, we honor all who have cared for it — past, present, and future.

Through this initiative, T.A.I.N.O. seeks to preserve our stories, uplift our people, and ensure that the beauty of these sacred greens continues to inspire future generations.

The Significance of the Sacred Greens Initiative

The Sacred Greens Initiative was born from a truth shared across cultures — that land is not owned, it is cared for. In Native communities, the land is sacred. It is the giver of life, nourishment, and balance — the foundation upon which all existence depends. It carries the memory of our ancestors and the responsibility of our future. Through the Sacred Greens Initiative, we seek to honor and recognize golf courses across the United States that have continued this sacred relationship by maintaining, nurturing, and beautifying the land through the game of golf.

This initiative stands as a bridge between tradition and recreation — a call to celebrate golf course owners, groundskeepers, and players who show respect for the earth by preserving its serenity, vitality, and natural spirit. These caretakers, knowingly or not, uphold the same principles of reverence and responsibility that Indigenous peoples have lived by for centuries. By honoring them, we affirm that environmental stewardship and cultural respect can coexist — and together, create something profoundly meaningful.

Our mission is not only to acknowledge these courses but to partner with them — to cultivate opportunities that empower local Native and Indigenous communities. Through this partnership, we aim to establish programs that provide scholarships, internships, and mentorships for Native youth and underserved children from surrounding communities. By opening doors in golf management, environmental conservation, and sports leadership, the Sacred Greens Initiative plants seeds of empowerment that will grow into futures grounded in both culture and purpose.

As part of our recognition efforts, each participating golf course in the Sacred Greens Initiative will receive a Sacred Stewardship Award Plaque and a ceremonial tree planting on its property. The plaque will bear the name of the course, the tribal territory on which it sits, and the date of recognition — symbolizing growth, gratitude, and the shared duty of preservation between the course and the community.

Additionally, courses will have the opportunity to participate in our Land & Legacy Educational Marker Program, which includes installing a small, elegant marker near the clubhouse or a signature hole that briefly tells the story of the Native tribe(s) historically connected to that land. These markers will serve as lasting educational symbols — inviting golfers and guests to learn, reflect, and honor the true heritage of the grounds they enjoy.

When we work together — Native nations and golf communities — we celebrate shared values of respect, balance, and harmony with the earth. The Sacred Greens Initiative transforms every round played into an act of remembrance, gratitude, and unity.
