Cuando era niño, mi profesor de historia nos dijo a mí y a toda la clase que el pueblo arawak taíno «no existía». Pero nuestras historias vivían en las palabras de mi abuela. Nuestra lengua vive en nuestro hogar. Nuestra identidad reside en nuestra esencia.
Creé TAINO para que ningún descendiente indígena volviera a oír jamás que su pueblo había desaparecido.
Hoy estamos:
• Publicar libros infantiles basados en la cultura taína arawak
• Llevar la educación a las escuelas, festivales, podcasts y programas comunitarios
• Liderar la iniciativa Sacred Greens Celebrity Golf para empoderar a las comunidades indígenas conectadas con sus tierras ancestrales.
• Continuar con mi esfuerzo personal para lograr el reconocimiento estatal de los descendientes arawak taíno y el establecimiento del Día del Patrimonio Arawak Taíno.
