Thea LaFond is more than an Olympic champion—she is a global symbol of perseverance, discipline, and cultural pride. Born in Silver Spring, Maryland, and rooted ancestrally in Dominica, Thea’s lineage traces directly to the Arawak Kalinago people, part of the same greater Arawak family as the Taíno Indigenous peoples of the Caribbean.
Her presence affirms a truth long denied: Arawak peoples did not disappear—we adapted, endured, and remain. As a Brand Ambassador for T.A.I.N.O., Thea helps elevate Indigenous visibility not as history, but as a living, thriving reality.
